Installing Fiberglass & Reflective Insulation

Installing Fiberglass Single Layer

Installing Fiberglass Single Layer

Lay the insulation roll across the roof purlins and wall girts before adding the exterior metal panels. The fiberglass rolls fit snugly between the interior metal and outer sheeting. Ensure the vapor barrier faces inward for a polished appearance. The 3—or 6-inch tabs on the insulation rolls should be rolled over and stapled.

Double-Layer Installation

Double-Layer Installation

The depth of your purlins will dictate the thickness of your base layer. The faced fiberglass rolls should fill the cavity. This layer is secured by LONG banding attached to the underside of the purlins. Next, you can add an unfaced insulation layer over the purlins or girts, resulting in a robust double-layer system with enhanced R-value.

Installing High R-Value Insulation

Installing High R-Value Insulation

For two-layer fiberglass insulation with a Liner System, install the first insulation layer above the purlins. Faced insulation is rolled between the purlins, filling in the cavity. The durable liner fabric is installed under the roof purlins. Steel banding straps support the liner.

Reflective Insulation

The materials you'll need depend on the method you choose

1. Reflective or Double-Sided Tape Purpose: To securely attach insulation to surfaces and seal seams. 2. Steel Sealant Purpose: This strong adhesive helps secure insulation to surfaces like wood, aluminum, or steel, ensuring durability and a secure fit. 3. Metal Pins and Caps Purpose: These attach insulation to various surfaces, including wood, aluminum, and steel, ensuring the material stays in place. 4 . Knife: To easily cut and customize your insulation to fit perfectly in the installation area. 5. Heat Gun Purpose: Essential for sealing seams on R22 insulation, ensuring a smooth, professional finish and maximum performance

Reflective Insulation Installation

New Metal Building Construction

Start with applying double-sided tape to the purlins. This ensures the insulation stays secure during installation and prevents it from blowing away. Unroll the insulation perpendicular to the purlins. Allow the insulation to sag slightly (about 2 inches). This creates an air gap that improves thermal performance by enhancing airflow and insulation effectiveness. Sealing the seams with reflective or double-sided tape is a great idea to make sure a tight, secure installation.

Use Ferring for more thermal efficiency

Use Ferring for more thermal efficiency

Use a thermal block or furring strips to secure reflective insulation, creating an air gap between the insulation and the surface for optimal thermal performance and air circulation.

Retrofit Installation -Sheeting

Retrofit Installation -Sheeting

Method 1: Materials: Reflective tape, Metal Sealant, Pins, and Caps. Begin by applying a small amount of glue to the base of each pin. Press the pin onto the sheeting, spacing them approximately one pin per sq. ft. Allow the glue to set for about 24 hours to bond fully. Next, push the insulation through each pin and place a cap on top to secure the material. Once the caps are in place, trim the excess length of the pins for a clean finish.

Retrofit I-Beams or Web Trusses

Material: Double-Sided Tape and Glue Attachment. Run a glue line and double-sided tape along the bottom of the I-beam. The tape will temporarily hold while the glue gives a longer-lasting bond. For optimal results, leave a 3/4″ air gap or more between the insulation and the surface, and seal the seams properly to prevent gaps.

Apply double-sided tape to the framing to keep the insulation securely in place during installation. Next, unroll the insulation perpendicular to the purlins. To attach the insulation directly to the wood framing, use cap nails or screws with locking washers. Alternatively, you can use 1/2″ staples for a quick and effective solution. For optimal performance, create an airspace of at least 3/4″. Using 3/4″furring strips works excellent, or you can gently push the insulation in a few inches to achieve the same result.

Retrofitting Between Framing Members

Use cap nails or screws with locking washers for a strong, secure hold. Alternatively, 1/2″staples can also be used. For the best performance, it’s essential to leave a 1″ air gap to maximize insulation effectiveness and promote proper airflow.

R22 - No Sealing Tape Needed

R22 - No Sealing Tape Needed

Our High R-Value 22 insulation features specially designed cuts at the edges for easy overlapping of the rolls. Simply overlap the rolls, and use a hot air gun to activate the welding process. By applying gentle pressure, you'll create a strong, impermeable seal between the rolls, ensuring optimal performance and durability.

R17 - Adhesive Attached on Rolls

R17 - Adhesive Attached on Rolls

The material is both lightweight and simple to install. With adhesive applied along one side of each roll, there's no need for additional reflective tape to seal the seams. This feature can cut installation time by up to 50%. Builders have praised its effortless setup and the significant time savings it brings to their projects.
